The Unquenchables visit Hong Kong

A small crew of Quenchies visited Hong Kong over the last week end of March this year, for the Rugby 7s.

Alex Tautau, because it’s a tradition &

Jim Halls, because it’s also a tradition (Does twice in ten years make a tradition?) In truth, he wangled business class flights through work. He did have to “work” in Hong Kong for six weeks, but, apparently, it was worth it! What’s on tour etc, etc.

They were joined by others from the club (Ian & Martin, real names not supplied because wives read this and because they represented the Box Hill Junior Club who just think that the working bee was longer than usual) and several from around the World who would join the Quenchies, if only they could pass the grade (Their apprenticeships have started).

Wednesday & Thursday evening

Quiet days for Jim (work colleagues may read this!) He enjoyed the international Hong Kong Rugby 10s at theM Hong Kong Football Club each evening, which has marginally better facilities than Box Hill RFC (their rugby section can be contacted at http://www.hkfcrugby.com/ so please do so if you’re looking for a game, or just to pay for Jim’s beers. They do have a vets team too.).

Alex, Ian, Martin and others kept the Hong Kong economy going………………somewhere in the Wan Chai district.

Friday

Another working day for Jim, who had to pay for his accommodation and airfares somehow! Meeting and greeting work colleagues on the first evening of the Hong Kong 7s, was tough going, he told our reporter.

Who knows just what Alex, Ian & Martin got up to………..They won’t tell your intrepid reporter.

Saturday

Fortunately, none of the Quenchies took cameras (too many wives & work colleagues get to this site), but have a look at the photo donated by a passerby. One 'international' Superman in the front and no prizes for guessing which Superman's in the background, Alex! Perhaps Friday night was a bit later than expected. Jim just looks incredulous.

Sunday

A great day for rugby 7s with two particular highlights:

· Kenya knocked New Zealand out of the competition!

· Supermen were again photographed, by another passerby, dancing in the stands…..aghem, I mean preparing to fly. Note the fantastic physical shape they’ve managed to maintain over summer and don’t ask what’s in the Coke cups (beer's not allowed in the stands and, no, drinking it through a straw does not help you fly any better!)
