MATCH DETAILS:

Date: 15th August 2009
Versus: Moorabbin
Venue: Boxhill

Pitch: Good
Score: Lost 54 - 5
Referee: Tony Laycock
Captain: Peter Collins
Man of the Match: Ric Makin

Last game of the season saw Boxhill at home and 24 players take the field. Moorabbin also had a surfeit of players and it looked like it would be a good match.

The match started at a fast pace and in the early stages the Quenchies gained ground due the forwards securing good ball and releasing it to our backs who attacked strongly. With Captain Collins providing fast ball from the base of the scrum the backs surged down the field only to be held out by resolute defence by Moorabbin.

Loose tackling and support from Moorabbin allowed them in for several tries in the first half and Boxhill’s reply by Ant Balocca saw the half time scores at 22 -5.

In the second half there were instances where we had a chance but lack of support or bad passes saw us failing to finish movements. Strong tackling from the forwards such as Glen Hill, Jim Halls and the dashing Dentist Phil Hands helped to defend our line. Strong runs from Ric Makin and Carl Ramage made inroads into the Moorabbin half.

The game was played in good spirit and although we lost it was a good match.

The next report should be of the Quenchies Dinner on the 18th September.
