MATCH DETAILS:

Date: 18th July 2009
Versus: Endeavour Hills
Venue: Endeavour Hills
Weather: Windy
Pitch: Average
Score: Lost 59 - 17
Referee: Gerry Collins
Captain: Nathan (Captain Mainwaring) Banks
Man of the Match: Chris Goycoolea

A bit better than last week as we had 16 players turn up plus Nigel from University as well as 7 support team.

With 12 forwards and 5 backs of which 3 were halfbacks and the others were a centre and a winger. The other backline positions were filled by forwards.

The game commenced at a fairly fast pace and the forward pack were putting pressure on the Endeavour Hills forwards by keeping the ball in close with rolling mauls. The heavier Boxhill pack was able to secure good ball but the backline was unable to penetrate the Endeavour Hills defence. The faster outside backs for Endeavour Hills caused all the damage and scored several tries. Peter Collins at 5/8ths made some strong runs but was unable to score. The forwards with a rolling maul near the try line allowed the “Chilean National Trialist” Chris Goycoolea to score near the posts.

The spirits of the team lifted and soon Boxhill was again pressuring the opposition and our dashing dental practitioner Phil Hand went over for another try. The supporters on the sidelines asked are we back. Unfortunately NO.

After half time Endeavour Hills again scored several tries despite the increased efforts in tackling. A brilliant passage of play by the forwards backing each other up allowed a ruck to form near the try line and again the Chilean struck with another try. The team went wild. I that 2 slabs next week they cried. The final score was an improvement over last week but we can do much better.

Next weeks match is at Harlequins. Kick off at 2.00 PM Melways 60 H12.
