MATCH DETAILS:
Date: 9th May 2009
Versus: Booroondara
Venue: Endeavour hills
Weather: Good
Pitch: Dry
Score: Lost 34 - 10
Referee: David Meredith
Captain: Jim Halls
Man of the Match: Francois Darcas

A lovely day for a game of rugby as the weather was good but what happened? Only 12 turned up!!!!! It was reminiscent of the Frankston 9 of a couple of years ago. Do we not like to travel?
Booroondara were in the same predicament so it turned out ok in the end.

The game was played at a frenetic pace at least by Booroobdara and within 10 minutes they had scored. 5-0.

The game surged back and forth with many a surge towards the Booroondara line only to be halted by determined tackling. The forward pack rucked and mauled bravely with the ball being won to send our backs into attack. Led by Jim Halls the forwards held their own in these contests but backs were unable to penetrate the Booroondara defence. Loose tackling and good support led to another Booroondara try. 10-0. Late in the first half a backline move saw the ball reach the hand of the flying Frenchman Francois who powered to the line for a try. 10-5.

The second half saw Boxhill looking confident but it was to no avail and Booroondara ran in another try and convert. 17-5. Several times it looked as if the side would score with the forwards taking the ball up and then releasing it to our backs who pressed the Booroondara defence but could not penetrate. A series of forays by Booroondara saw another 3 tries and 1 conversion bring the total to 34-5. In the latter half of the game Boxhill managed to cross the Booroondara line and score. 34-10 and this was the final result. Many tries were saved by resolute tackling by Chris Peugeot, Fast Eddy and Francois.

Our thanks to the players from Uni and Moorabbin for filling in.

Next week (16th May) we play Endeavour Hills at Maroondah Melways 37 B7. Kick-off at 3-15 pm.
