On a cold, dry day we met Maroondah plus Marty from Uni. It started off as usual with a promising foray into Maroondah territory but unfortunately we remembered how we played last week and decided that it was a good strategy to apply again. Maroondah co-operated by scoring only 5 tries in the first half and only converting 3 of them. The forwards drove up the field led by MOM Glen Hill and his dominance in the lineouts provided incentive to push onward but the rate of turnovers told against us as we lost the ball in tackles. This allowed Maroondah’s backs to run through us as again we decided not to tackle.
The backs were receiving good ball but time and again could not finish off due to poor support or losing the ball in the tackle. Last weeks MOM Greg Joubert saved loose ball and took the tackle rather than allow the Maroondah backs to gather. Jason McGregor arrived from Sydney hoping to score more tries but was disappointed but he brought a case of CORONA for the team as he thought that Boutique beer was more fitting to celebrate his only try ever.
After half time with hope of reversing our fortunes we pushed ahead and forced Maroondah back to their own line only to lose the ball again. Fast Eddy playing at fullback joined into attack in the backline but was unable to force a way through the Maroondah defence. Maroondah scored another 4 tries in the second half and although we did not stop trying, it was looking like another lopsided defeat.
The game was played in good spirit as all matches against Maroondah are and we can look forward to next week. Hopefully we will get a home game soon so that all the “HOME GAME HARRY’S will turn up.
