The team lunch at our sponsors Krua Thai 2 on 4 July was supported by a total 25 hungry players and partners. Thank you to all who attended. Bartalk understands that several guys got lost on the way to the train station and as a result arrived home late in the evening.

What happened to the trial of the proposed rule variations for the masters’ competition? Nothing. There was a lack of interest from all clubs including our own so the trial was abandoned before it started. That’s life.

This year has been a real struggle to get players onto the field. We have even forfeited a game due to lack of available players. That is something that has never occurred before. We have lost Jamie Meyers, Ric Makin, Scott Breen, Alex Tau Tau, Clive Welti, Perky and Pommie Paul except for cameo appearances, Walshie and Rob Dean. Dennis has been out injured for most of the season and Francois after a promising start to the season has disappeared. That explains in part why we took the field with only 11 players against Boroondara on 11 July. Alex arrived halfway through the first half and 2 Uni players helped us out in the second half. So depressed was Burdett at the low turn out that he left his kit in his car and spent the afternoon shaking his head in disillusionment. Where are the ex >first grade Christian and Jason who Walshie assured us had been signed up to play with us this year? >Walshie has some explaining to do.

Rumour has it that some club presidents are keen for the masters’ competition to be absorbed into the third grade competition for next year. If it comes to fruition and if that means training will be compulsory for our players, bartalk wishes team management the best of luck for next season.

See you at the bar!
