• <Season 2008 Review>

Here we are half way through the season and what a season it has been. First Eltham dropped out of the competition but not before recording its’ first and only win of the season against the Unquenchables. That was the day the Eltham 3rd grade had a bye.

Now Moorabbin has dropped out of our competition. The last round at their home ground they could only rustle up 2 players. The draw is being revamped to take account of the 2 teams’ withdrawal.

This is nothing new to those who turn up for a game every week but our masters competition is in a precarious situation. Half the teams are unable to field a full side and those that do, regularly help out sides short of players.

All the games we have “won” have been by forfeit and most have those have resulted in us being belted by the Bro’ All Stars who love playing against the Unquenchables when the opposition is short of players.

Unfortunately the stars of our team from last year have only made rare appearances for the Unquenchables. Jamie has been busy breast feeding his new daughter while Birdy and Pommie Paul made a guest appearance 2 weeks ago for their first game of the season. Alex our rampaging centre from 2007 is over in Western Australia trying to make a quid.

At least we have recruited well with the Ramage brothers Karl and Paul, Rob Dean, Andy and Greg. The last recruitment from our seniors at Box Hill was Birdy. Since then it has been our website that has attracted players to the Unquenchables.

If we happen to get all our class players available at the won time we may surprise ourselves with a win in the second half of the season.
